Good to see Reese back. How about we skate him more than 6 minutes tomorrow night. Hopefully Gaudette also finds some tangible ice time. Still grasping at straws everyone.

C’mon guys, it’s back to being a “rebuild” again

Wait, so now it’s still a “rebuild,” after all? No, that doesn’t pass the smell test.

@ByScottPowers and I on the Blackhawks’ predicament:

Stan really has to go, he’s as clueless as our president, but our president has dementia.

Do the Hawks have a secret D Man that they are hiding or they rolling with 5 tomorrow night? The only callup was Reese Johnson.

Of course I suppose its not difficult to fill Mitchell,s potential 8 minutes he would get from Colliton.

Tim W: I think that would be a positive on Defense rolling with 5. Seth Jones can play 35 minutes and it would be easier for him to guess who he’s playing with.

Hammer, Yes that sounds right. Their next game isn’t until Wednesday at home against the Leafs so Jones can empty the tank. I know Vegas played a bunch of games with 5 D Men last year because of the Cap. Hawks next 2 opponents got bkasted tonight by a combined 13-2 score. So there may be hope to right the ship but I have been wrong before.

Right now according to capfriendly Kane is only one on non roster protcol. So no room on 23 man to callup a D until Gus is moved off main roster.

Tim W: If the Hawks don’t win either tonight or Wednesday, they might not win a game until Thanksgiving. Even hardcore Kool Aid drinkers here would have to admit that its time to clear the deck (hopefully). There’s 31 other GM’s that can run Team USA. Detroit is on a back to back tonight, its now or never. No more excuses for this sad sack management team.

Looking at the Colliton era what has management and ownership seen that makes them stay this course? I’ve watched the UC go from a loud full house venue to a below average home for an original six franchise. Yes change is needed and it has to come from the top and the quicker the better.

Dollar Bill there never was a full blown rebuild, last season was as close as will get with Toews, Dach and Nylander going down, plus unable to land a goalie Crawford, Murray, Kuemper were all inquired about. Then as we were told they took a step back but if not for that expectations and roster personal would’ve been seriously different.

MAF is here but Lankinen, Sodetblom and Commesso are being developed for the future. S. Jones wasn’t acquired for this year only but to fill a void long term. McCabe and Murphy signed long term, Stillman a place holder, while Gus and Dehaan gone after this year. The system is being developed with intentions of having proper time to fill out blueline needs.

Strome is likely gone, Gaudette, Carpenter, Kurashev and i believe Kubalik all on bubble, all or most may not return. Borgstrom looking good so far, Reichel and Nylander off to a good start in Rfd., we all know he has got it if he ever figures out how to use it are being developed as potential fwds. Younger Dach, Hardman and be worth looking into Kravtsov for Strome deal as potential power forwards in the mix. R. Johnson with Entwistle and Khaira some good young 4th liners, T. Johnson good depth player C or wing. Anybody that didn’t believe that they wouldn’t try put a competitive team out there before 19-88 era ended was being naive. If you need to call it rebuild then yes that is still going on but not or ever was a rebuild that is trying to find the bottom and building from there back up type of one.

If the Hawks don’t play their asses off tonight I think that will tell the whole hockey world what they think of Colliton and whether they, the players really support him or not

A loss tonight and then a loss to TOR (which wouldn’t be surprising) and even Stan may have had enough of JC

Huge game tonight IMO – pretty much a must win (already!)

I hope Stan has a contingency plan for losing the next two games – ie. a new coach in mind that he’s already been in contact with

I hope Rocky has a contingency plan for a new GM if we lose the 2 games. He’s the reason the team is in the spot. Kid Coach will be the fall guy probably. Nylander: 3 goals in 4 games with a -5. Whoopie!!! what does that tell people??? He’s a decent AHL player.

@Ian whether or not there was a full blown rebuild or not Stan pretty much said and acted as if it was. Yes, Dach, Toews ans Nylander going down exacerbated whatever it was Stan was trying to accomplish. He ungloriously got rid of Corey, signed Strome at the last moment as it seemed he wasn’t sure if Toews would play or not.

And now to all the moves he made to get us here. It all started w/Keith wanting to play closer to his son which has been accomplished. But I still don’t think(not sure at all) that they live anywhere near to close to each other, it’s only closer. So that got the ball rolling and my guesstimate is that Keith didn’t want to play for JC, period.

Doing a rebuild, retool or whatever he outbid himself greatly to get Jones which indicates they were going for it (po’s or cup contention)full stop. Getting McCabe might be the best move he made but that’s tbd. The Johnson move just stinks and shows Stan has no idea about how to use the cap to his
advantage. MAF was another move showing they were going for it all.

Now imagine had Stan signed Corey to mentor Lanks/Delia/Subban. Stan and the organIzation dislike Corey as he’s the only exHawk not to get a legacy night, funny isn’t it.

Now if Stan doesn’t outbid himself in the Jones deal and we stay pat, we could’ve had Cole Sillinger, traded the 2nd round pick that we also gave to CBJ for Jake Bean, getting McCabe would then fill out the D corp.

Having a D w/Boquist, Murphy, Bean, McCabe, Kalynuk, Stillman while not great by any means would be something to hopefully develop. At the minimum they couldn’t be any worse than they are now.

Back to Borgstrom/Reichel ya I think they could both be keepers, especially Reichel. Nylander hopefully is starting to piece it together and maybe, hopefully, I pray Strome could get us Kravtsov but I think it’s unlikely. I also like Hardman, I believe he’s very capable of playing w/talented forwards. He played well w/Boldy and Newhook in college.

Blackhawks agree to terms with Mike Hardman on entry-level …
    [Search domain nbcsports.com] https://www.nbcsports.com › chicago › blackhawks › blackhawks-agree-terms-mike-hardman-entry-level-contract
Hardman played the 2020-21 campaign on a line with Matthew Boldy and Alex Newhook, both of whom were drafted in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft. The three of them formed one of the most dynamic trios in college.

Kub’s if he gets hot again is gone as he’ll be unaffordable because of Stan’s great Cap knowledge. (It was one of the highlights mentioned when he was hired). Carpenter and Khaira are 13-14th forwards at best.

So while Stan put together a team w/good talent any GM can do that today he hasn’t put together a team that can win. He has alot of square pegs going into round holes.

So in conclusion whether or not it’s a rebuild or naivety to think they weren’t going to try to piece together another run Stan Bowman is not the man capable of doing either, he needs to go. Until he
does we are left with being mired in mediocrity.

Good analysis Dollar Bill. Everyone wants to minimize the acquisition cost of S Jones. But Sillinger, the 2nd for Bean, were a great haul this year plus Boquist at 20 years old and our 1st next year, which if it isn’t a lottery winning 1 or 2, is going to be one hell of a player for Columbus, the best of the bunch in the trade. He lost every detail of that trade, including only protecting the pick if it was 1 or 2 overall. He should never be allowed to trade with Columbus again.

Adding Tyler Johnson was weird. He was on waivers the previous season and the entire NHL took a pass on adding that contract, anticipating to take it would need to force TB to include a serious sweetener, along the lines of a good prospect and a first. Then along comes Stan to let them off the hook, for Seabrook and a 2nd. They are laughing in Tampa Bay at that deal.

Add the S Jones extension in and as you say very unlikely to afford Kubalik next year when Dach gets a new deal as well. The last thing this team needs is removing goal scorers from the lineup but there you are.

Dollar Bill i’m all for off ice changes being made too. Just pointing out this season really doesn’t hurt the future. If S. Jones misses the mark the 1st round picks will hurt but his signing was a long term move not a short term grab. The pressure is off Kalynuk, the other youngsters in Rfd. from carrying the load when not ready, something that they learned/changed from last season. If they develop into high end then thats a good problem, if not then top 4 mostly in place, err on the good side there and fill your D core capably. Allen and Vlassic, maybe Kaiser will play into that equation sooner or later as well. Slaggert another young intriguing forward prospect not that far away as well.

The good thing about 19 and 88 is their caphits can be used to bolster your forward group when not being used for them anymore. As for Keith the closed border issues in seeing his son played a bigger role than how close he actually is i think in his decision. Agree though his heart certainly did appear to be what was going on with Blackhawks last couple of years.

How good is this team right now, from what we have seen so far not very, should it be or will it be is another discussion. Things aren’t as dire as some people think either though.

Ian – I think if they can continue to limit their opponents scoring chances like the last 2 games the offence will come

    Hopefully that starts tonight

If Kane doesn’t play vs DET that could be a blessing forcing the Hawks to score in other ways 5 on 5 than off the rush like rebounds and tips which they haven’t really been close to doing yet
