Report: Blackhawks To Face North Stars In Outdoor Alumni Game

ESPN 1500 in Minnesota broke the news on Tuesday morning that a group of Blackhawks alumni will play a group of North Stars alumni the day before the Hawks and Wild play outdoors in February.

Steve Larmer reunited with Denis Savard and Al Secord? Ed Belfour in net? Count us in the group that’s thrilled to see this announcement.

What about Bob Murray? If yes, he needs to commence a major work-out regimen. Lots of stress-eating more likely than not….

Every day that passes with Bickell (and Versteeg) still on the roster sadly convinces me that Bowman will have but no choice to trade Shaw to address the salary cap dilemma. And every day that passes with Kruger out on the open market means we are at major risk of seeing him sign elsewhere. And quite frankly, Bowman may have already moved on from Kruger knowing there is little practical way he can make the money work. Oduya is a pipe dream at this point.

Would it be better to load up a key prospect and/or nice draft pick with Bickell to make him go away if the alternative in trading Shaw? I REALLY want Shaw to stay for multiple reasons.

Which uniform will Dirk Graham wear?

Leave it to. Rufus T Firefly to make a reply that has nothing to do with the original post.

David B., that’s hilarious and so true. Recall last year after Morin was traded and long gone, there was a post by Tab about a subject and Mr. Rufus posted comments about Morin instead….

    Dave & Ice,

Cut poor Rufus some slack, it’s not easy or pleasant living on a ledge……

Rufus- If Bowman had moved on from Kruger…. Kruger (and his agent) would have already notified every other GM he is on the open market, and he’s ready to sign…

There would be ALOT more buzz if that was the case.

Take a step back… we still have time before next season.

Sweet . . . great idea hope it happens!

Bickell and Versteeg will be gone, gotta go! What Value they really have is questionable but certainly they are replaceable.

Kruger now at this point almost looks expendable as much as I love the Kid but not sure his value is as high as He might think? 4th lien center a good one and great at the DOT for sure, good penalty killer has a lot to offer that is often NOT MEASURED in trade VALUE?

Shaw needs to be kept and contract extended soon.

Why is there a picture of the STL BLUES when this story is about the Minnesota Norths Stars?!?!?!?!? (head scratch)

  • July 14, 2015 at 1:26 pm

Because I was hoping someone would notice and bitch about it, Nick L. Obviously.

Rufus: or should I say RUFUS!!

Kruger is a restricted free agent, not unrestricted. He is NOT out on the open market, in fact his options are basically sign with the Blackhawks or play on Sweden.

    Please read and retain.

Scott Powers ESPN tweeting his source telling him Oduya will not be re-signing with the Blackhawks.

Oduya going to sign up with Buffalo.. Probably know today. Re the alumi game, with those calibre ex players wouldn’t it be nice if a real hockey game suddenly broke out! Great talent there.

Saw someone mention Dirk Graham, what about Curt Fraser also.
This the rivalry i remember most. Brawls in the warm ups!!!
Hey Tab, love this new format my friend!!!

Some things that you can count on – spring comes after winter, the sun rises in the east, the Blues collapse in the playoffs and a blow-hard gets salty when someone else points out a flaw in their logic.

RTF your act couldn’t be more predictable and worn out. Didn’t you promise to go post on Second City Hockey awhile back. Maybe you should make good on that threat. We won’t miss your copy/paste predictions in every thread trying to prove how smart you are.

Nick L who are the Norths Stars? Oh, it was just a minor oversight, probably not something worth calling out, eh?

How about Peter Marsh & Tim Higgins suit up?

  • July 14, 2015 at 3:32 pm

I’m such a hockey nerd I looked at the pic and said hey its Gramps & Pat Jablonski, couldn’t place the Blue d-man. I think that picture is on a proset hockey card vintage 1990.

    anyone got him?

  • July 14, 2015 at 3:35 pm

    Unfortunately Rufus may be right about Shaw, I see 3 possible outcomes;

    1st Shaw indeed gets dealt

2nd Bickell gets sent down and the Hawks play Rockford shuffle with the bottom of the roster guys all season long

3rd Steeger, Bickell or someone else gets with a similar cap number gets traded

Hopefully Secord dances with Plett or Shnepts (sp?). This time choreographed for laughs. The fights back then were heat of the moment matches rather than the stuff we see today.

I still can’t get accustomed to Minnesota’s team named anything other than the North Stars. Talk about rivalry, it was extreme back then. Same with the Blues.

    Great memories of those teams.

Let’s get Stu Grimson and put on the foil.

Growing up a North Stars fan in Minnesota, my memories of ‘hawks-North Stars are vivid, it was the single greatest rivalry in hockey for several years. I was at a game in the 80’s when the North Stars hung a 10-spot on the Blackhawks, and we all knew the next game between the two would be ugly, and I think it was. Secord-Plett dropped ’em at the opening faceoff, and it went downhill (or uphill, depending on how you looked at it!) from there. Screw the Blues. Minnesota-Chicago…now that was a rivalry.
