Stan Bowman Comments On Duncan Keith

On Thursday, Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman spoke to media members ahead of the World Cup of Hockey. Bowman was asked about defenseman Duncan Keith, who is not playing for Canada as he rehabs his knee.

Bowman told the media that Keith not playing is “nothing to be concerned about,” but wouldn’t put a timeline on his availability.

Don’t rush Keith back! Give him all the time he needs, and then some.

    Lets Go Hawks!

My guess is Keith didnt really want to play in the world cup and this gave him an out without actually saying he didnt want to play. Stan’s just backing him up….hopefully.

as long as he playing against St. Louis day one, take as much time as he wants,

  • September 15, 2016 at 1:46 pm

Better to rest a few games now and be healty later

  • September 15, 2016 at 10:12 pm

Hope he will take the time he needs …we can start the season without Keith….maybe he can come Back in late october or november ….no rush …let him get ready slowly and let some kids play the first months….

That,s what the Habs said last year when Price went down Hawks2010 . This team needs to be firing on all cylinders coming out of the gate . Sure we have a warm body to keep the bench warm but Keith is a HUGE part of the success of this team .

This seems to be a bigger deal than originally thought. I’m wondering if he had another procedure on the knee this summer. Just wondering, no background information whatsoever but he might not be ready for the regular season ? To me that’s a WOW.

The team has been “resting” since late April. So that’s almost 5 full months. A long long time. Sounds like a recovery from surgery to me.

I wonder if he retore it.

By comparison and this admittedly is apples to oranges, I tore my distal bicep tendon playing hockey in May of 2014 after getting drilled carrying the puck over the blue line. I had surgery to reattach the tendon to my forearm in June. The surgeon had me go through 3 months of rehab, physical therapy etc. On Labor Day, he cleared me to return to playing hockey. After skating on my own
, stick handling etc, I played in a league game. My first shot, I felt a stinging in my arm. A few passes later, more stinging. I left the ice, took off my equipment and called the Doctor who met me in the emergency room, I had torn the tendon in the exact same spot.

Here’s the medical morale of the story : the doctor said once a tendon is torn it is never the same, it is weakened much like a frayed rope. Once reattached, it is surgically secured but there are no guarantees it can withstand the rigors of contact sports.

It has taken Victor Cruz of the New York Giants nearly 3 years to catch a pass in the NFL again after tearing his meniscus,

I realize I am being a Debbie Downer on this Keith injury but I suspect it’s not a “minor” thing. I hope I am wrong.

Lets not get carried away here. Meniscus don t always require surgery and it appeared that was the original thought, then they opted for athroscopic surgery which almost always is successful so before getting too panicky here lets give it a little time and see what happens.

Pretty sure he didn’t want to play in this asinine tournament and Bowman is covering for him. Similar to how Jonathan Toews had a personal event that made him miss the convention.

Oh a high note its been a few months since someone from the Hawks has made the news for some alleged act of douchebaggery so that’s probably worth celebrating.

  • September 16, 2016 at 8:59 am

for the record, victor cruz tore his patellar tendon

  • September 16, 2016 at 9:55 am

I had surgically “repaired” Meniscus… 20 years ago… way worse than the simple “snip a piece/remove” … cuz to remove mine would have been 80% more= bone/bone… repair= long recovery. small tear removal= playing in 3 weeks

so the questions are- how much did they remove from Keith???
Also- was there any partial tearing of ACL/or MCL- that he did not want to address due to much longer time to recover???

Bright side- Kempny- would get tons of time… and SB – could bank a lot $$$
    for the TDL rental

    Good info Wall.

The silver lining is Kempny looks like the real deal so far. He might actually end up being a top 4 NHL defenseman and if so that’s a huge get by Stan.

Of course there is absolutely no replacing Duncan Keith.

  • September 16, 2016 at 12:08 pm

On Tva sport a few days ago one guy said that Kempny is a very skill player that can be use in many different situation …Now lets see Iff IQ see the same thing when he start the season …
Maybe we now have 5 d-men on top 4…that would be very nice …just hope IQ love him …

  • September 16, 2016 at 12:51 pm

    Kempny- watched 1st 2 games last week… focused 100% on Kempny…

I was really impressed- I do think the guy could be top 4 (based on only 2 games)
but really played like the Hawks want their D to play… took away both blue lines, active stick, (might actually hit too much for a Hawk D-man) lol

  • September 16, 2016 at 12:58 pm

Thanks Wall and Craig for the Kempny observations. If we had Kempny or Soupy last year against the Blues in playoffs I think the Hawks could have gone to the finals again. Sonofa….

    Lets Go Hawks!

  • September 16, 2016 at 3:21 pm

How could Q play Kempny over Svedberg? People on this board were comparing Svedberg to Chara not too long ago. LMAO.

Hope this isn’t a recovery from another surgery for Keith. That would suck, but I agree it sure sounds like that may be the case. Someone above called it what it looks like. Let’s see how it plays out. We all know how the NHL is with disclosure of injuries.

Go Hawks… Sorry, but I can’t wait ’til this World Cup crap is over.

  • September 16, 2016 at 8:52 pm

Radke and Motte score in 1st prospect game….

Doesn’t surprise me… Radke impressed me in Hawks prospect camp…

I wish –The other “no name” to impress me at Prospect camp, Mathias From was there…

Heard Forsling was the best Hawk D-man

also heard… Schmaltz had good game early…

  • September 17, 2016 at 9:06 am

You don’t bank space with LTIR. It’s a temporarily higher ceiling until the player returns. The only scenario that would give the Hawks more tel space with Keith being injured is if it’s a long term injury carried to the start of the playoffs.

  • September 17, 2016 at 5:36 pm

Forsling had a 3 pts in a 5-0 win over Wings this afternoon …thats all what i know …iff somebody knows more please let us know.. ;)

  • September 17, 2016 at 6:44 pm

Fortin had a very good game scored a couple points… (I thought in Hawk’s summer camp- kid skated/forechecked like Frolik)… speaking of Frolik- watched a taped Czech game from a few days ago- that Guys is a GREAT checker/PK’er…
Relentless, fluid, and can shadow the best of them!!!

Powers- said Forsling is the best player at tourney- thus far– don’t know if he meant Hawk Prospect… or ALL prospects…

    D-Cat scored goal

Luke Johnson- was very solid in all parts of the game… and is way better than people think

  • September 18, 2016 at 9:27 am

Thx Wall for your opignon ….wish i could ear more from others who saw some action from the kids yesterday..

  • September 18, 2016 at 9:34 am

After watching the Canada v.s. Czech game last night i can say that the Kempny , Frolik lovers are all full of hot wind . Kempny got lots of ice time at first on the p.p. but he could not hit the net ,nor make a pass that outsmarted any Canadian players ,he was also burned in his own end trying to carry the puck out . Frolik on the other hand made 1 or 2 good rushes and then drifted off into the night sky ,.,.never to be spoken of the rest of the game . Czech goalie played well as the game could have been 12 zip . My issue with Kempny is ,.,sure he gets talked about because of his Special team play and increased ice time but ,.,.this is a TEAM game and with zero results on the board ,in I.Q,s world that boy will not last.

  • September 18, 2016 at 10:08 am

Hawkhead, good observations… looked pretty much the same to me…
agree it is Team game… My previous observations of Kempny- are that he Plays the way Hawks like D guys to play… Pinch O side, stand up D blue line, active stick… will he be “better” w/ Q’s system/Hawk team support- imo- I think he will!

Keeping on same theme- watched 1st half of USA game… Kane Looked pretty bad/invisible… I am going to blame it on Torts/and the “system” or lack of- instead of Kane!!!

  • September 18, 2016 at 5:45 pm

Wall, good call on banking cap space. First 5 or so games everybodys getting up to speed anyways. As long as its very short term it will benefit team and Kempny getting quality min. Like when Hoss came back in NOV. that yr the team went to another level,.

  • September 18, 2016 at 5:53 pm

Ernie, yea that’s right. What the min litr 10games/21 days. 10 games isint that much more then 5 or so, especially if it nets us a lot for deadline.

  • September 19, 2016 at 8:38 am

I guess it wouldn’t bank space, it would let us add a player/then have to make cap work. Moar Options.
