USA Hockey Names Patrick Kane Captain

On Monday afternoon, once the lockers were cleaned out the exit interviews with the local media had been completed, the Blackhawks made a little news. Well, at least one forward did.

Jonathan Toews has already said he’ll pass on playing for Canada, but another Hawks forward will wear a “C” in Denmark at the World Championships.

USA Hockey announced that Patrick Kane will be the captain of the US team at the upcoming 2018 IIHF Men’s World Championship set for May 4-20 in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark. Kane won silver with the US at the 2010 Winter Olympics; he also represented his country at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Brandon Saad, who is apparently getting married in July, will not play for the US, however.

Ugh! Just take the time off. At least don’t get hurt.

A big part of what makes Kane so great is he is a hockey junkie. He can’t get enough of playing hockey. He played some games in a men’s pick up league last summer or the summer before. It’s part of who he is so you can’t change that. That and he has a strong desire to be the best and to prove it all the time.

Now he doesn’t get that chance since the Hawks have no playoff games, so this is his next best thing. Guys like Kane and Keith are warriors and been there done that it is part of their makeup.

Having said that, I echo your comment, he is the guy we can least afford to get hurt. So I hope he plays hard, wins, and walks away healthy.

Hopefully the USA coach will put Kane and DeBrincat on the same line so they can build some chemistry playing together. And if Schmaltz plays – put all three of them on a line together. If they have some success at Worlds maybe Q will be convinced to keep them together next season.

Yeah Kane just loves to play and with his style and particularly on big ice he hopefully won’t see a lot of physical play

The purp0se of the cap was supposed to maintain parity thru the league, and the owners could keep a lot of money. so the Hawks were dismantled. and everything was groovy, except when you have a good front office like pitt a good team can be created, they will probably win their third cup and who knows maybe another one and we can call them the islesoilerscanadiens
