Yeah, he looks great against prospects, 90% of whom will never see an NHL game. But the Hawks probably will not bring this kid in this year, even if his euro season ends. He’s 17 and physically is not fully developed. His skills are definitely off the charts (projected top 10 in the draft) and fell to the Hawks at 18 for a number of reasons.
The Red Wings have been the eptiome of not rushing their prospects. Give them time to develop with bigger bodied competition who have skill sets that are way beyond what you see in this little clip. Europe is a different game on a bigger sheet. Your not usually running into 6′ plus 200+ lb guys every 25 ft over there. But at least he will have a chance to fill out physically and get ready for a stint in the A with some NHL talent before he’s dropped into the fire at the MadHouse. My guess, 2012-13 end of season in AHL/NHL if euro season ends and if he matures a bit physically. 2013-14, definitely 9 game max with the big club if he continues to develop.
I watched the scrimmage at Johnny’s on Thursday. I really liked what this kid displayed. It will be interesting to see what he will do when he fills out and starts shaving in a couple years. Crazy to even think of this kid wearing the beloved sweater until 2013 at the absolute earliest; I’ll predict 2014. He has premium offensive skills.
Do you think there is any potential to come up this year?
Only if his season in Europe ends before the Hawks’ does. He’ll be overseas this year.
Next question Tab… Sounds like T-Squared is committed to Euro… fine…
but will the Hawks invite him to the Real pre-season pro camp for a look?
Would love to see how he does there… honestly made the rookies look like chumps at times.
based on a very small sample… this guy truly does have Kane type skill w/ better shot!!
